IRS E-File      Electronic Filing

E-file is the fastest most accurate way to electronically file your tax returns. You don't have to worry about your tax return being lost or delayed in the mail. Upon receipt of the return information, the IRS and/or state tax agency quickly and automatically checks for errors or other missing information (the error rate for electronic returns is less than 1%). Within 12 - 48 hours of electronic transmission, the IRS and/or state tax agency acknowledges acceptance of the return. Only E-file provides this assurance.

Furthermore, E-file means fast refunds - in half the time as when filing on paper - even faster with direct deposit!

.... and best of all there is NO additional charge for E-file if we prepare your tax return(s)!

Frequently Asked Questions About Electronic Filing

How do I sign the tax return if I file electronically?

Your Federal (IRS) tax return consists of an "electronic signature" which is a 5-digit PIN number that you create. Your electronic state tax return, if any, may either be an electronic signature or actual signature, depending on the state.

If you are e-filing your Federal, state, or both tax returns, we will still need to get your physical signature before we can transmit your completed tax return(s) to the IRS or state tax agency. There are THREE options for us to send you the forms to sign:

1. We can fax the forms to you, OR

2. We can e-mail you a link to a secure PDF file for you to download, OR

3. We can mail you the forms.

After you and your spouse (if married filing jointly) sign the forms, you can either fax or mail them to us, then we will submit them electronically to the tax authorities. We will also need copies of any Forms W-2, W-2G, 1099-G, 1099-R, and any other 1099 forms that show federal and/or state tax withheld.

Why should I file electronically?

You should file electronically because it’s FAST, and we receive proof of acceptance from the IRS and/or state tax agency in as little as 12 hours. Also, if you are getting a refund, it is usually received in half the time compared to paper filers by mail, even faster if you choose a direct deposit into your bank account. In addition, you'll have peace of mind and it is much more accurate. You do not have to worry about your tax return getting lost in the mail, or a tax agency employee making an error entering your tax return into the computer system.

How accurate is E-file?

It is virtually error-proof.  E-file is so accurate it greatly reduces the chance of getting one of those annoying “IRS Letters” or "State Tax Department Letters."

Can ALL income tax returns be filed electronically?

Most income tax returns can be filed electronically. However, if your tax return requires special processing or has a form that is NOT eligible for electronic filing, we will inform you.

NOTE: Certain state income tax returns may not be eligible for electronic filing. For example, certain states may not accept certain forms electronically, or may not accept part-year or nonresident returns electronically.

Will I receive proof that my tax return has been ACCEPTED?

For FEDERAL tax returns, our policy is to mail you a copy of the acceptance using IRS Form 9325. The form will show the date of acceptance, the control number assigned to your tax return, along with other information. You may also call us at 407-657-6336 to find if it was accepted.

For STATE tax returns, please call us at 407-657-6336.

How long will it take to receive my refund?

For FEDERAL tax returns, if you are having the refund mailed to you, it generally takes about 21 business days. If you have chosen a direct deposit into your bank account, it generally takes 5 to 10 business days. Click here to view a tentative IRS refund chart for electronic tax returns.

State tax refund times vary with each state. They normally rage from 1 to 4 weeks. Click here for additional information.

What happens if the IRS REJECTS my tax return?

In many cases you will have the opportunity to supply us with the correct information, so we can re-transmit the tax return to the IRS.

However, there may be times you cannot supply the correct information, OR the tax return is correct, but the IRS e-file system will NOT accept the correct tax return for a particular reason. Here are a couple examples:

  • You are claiming your son James as a dependent on your tax return. He does QUALIFY as your dependent, however, someone else has already claimed James on their tax return, then your tax return will be REJECTED. If you wish to keep James on your tax return, you will have no choice but  to mail in your tax return to the IRS for manual processing.

  • You choose "Single" as your filing status on your tax return because you were legally divorced before the year ended. You did the right thing, assuming you don't qualify for another filing status. However, your ex-spouse incorrectly filed using a "Married Filing Separately" filing status. You will have no choice, but to mail in your tax return to the IRS for manual processing.

What are some common reasons the IRS REJECTS a tax return?

  • The name and/or social security number of the secondary taxpayer (usually wife) does NOT match the IRS master record. The IRS master record comes from Social Security Administration. If the name and/or social security number do not match, the tax return will be REJECTED. If you feel you have entered them correctly, you need to contact Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 and find out what name and social security number they have on record. (Note: Many women forget to change their last name with Social Security Administration when they get married, so they must either use their maiden name or change their name with Social Security Administration before we can re-transmit the tax return.)

  • Your dependent’s name, date of birth and/or social security number do not match IRS records. The IRS master record comes from Social Security Administration. If the name, social security number, and/or date of birth do not match, the tax return will be REJECTED. If you feel you have entered them correctly, you need to contact Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 and find out what name and social security number they have on record.

  • Your child does NOT qualify for the "Child Tax Credit" because he/she is NOT "under" age 17 as of December 31st of the tax year. If your child is 17 or older as of December 31st of the tax year, you are NOT entitled to the child tax credit. We REQUIRE you supply us with date of births to avoid this reject situation.
