Payments

Credit/debit card payments may be used to pay the full or partial amount of the tax due. The payment date will be the date the charge is authorized.

Fees

Be advised there will be a "convenience fee" for using your credit/debit card to pay taxes. Fees are based on the amount of the payment and may vary by service provider. For federal taxes the average fee is 2.49% of the amount you are paying. The convenience fee for local payments (examples: property taxes, real estate taxes, parking citations, utility payments, etc.) may vary. Taxpayers will be informed of the convenience fee amount before the payment is authorized. This fee is in addition to any charges, such as interest, that may be assessed by the card issuer. You will not be charged a "cash advance fee", since your tax payment will be treated like a retail purchase.

NOTE: The IRS does not receive or charge any fees for payments. The convenience fee is charged by the service provider!

Disclosure

Payment information will not be disclosed for any reason other than processing the transaction authorized by the taxpayer. The IRS does not receive or store card numbers.

Confirmation of Payment

A confirmation number will be provided at the end of the phone or Internet transaction this way you will have proof payment was made.

Your Card Statement

Your card statement will have TWO separate charges. One charge is for the actual tax payment and will be listed as "United States Treasury Tax Payment" and the other charge is for the convenience fee and will be listed as "Tax Payment Convenience Fee" (or similar language).
